Preferring smaller events, V festival is one I normally steer clear of. V is spread over two days and two locations (Stafford and Chelmsford) with the line up swapping over (Stafford’s Saturday line-up is Chelmsford Sunday etc). The line up is quiet popularist and the crowd quite a young one, this year it was my son’s first festival with his friends. Now I did not want to crowd him, or even see him but I thought being in the same town would be a good idea so I breathed deeply, mumbled chants and applied for accreditation.

Cool

The festival consists of four (main) stages: two large ones outside and two in tents: with the furthest being twenty five minutes walk from the media centre, there were times when a  mini bus was required. Even with the mini bus, covering a festival requires a great deal of walking whilst carrying two heavy cameras, batteries and lenses.

Relaxing

So whilst the audience are drinking, enjoying the music, sun and generally relaxing we are running from stage to stage; Its quite exhausting. (Although it does have it’s advantages, we do not have to queue for the toilets but then neither did these guys).

!!!

To give an idea, despite choosing to skip the early acts on each day, I still shot 20 acts running between the 4 stages within 15 hours of shooting time on site.

My Saturday kicked off with Emeli Sande (who was well covered in Sundays papers).

Emeli Sande

Followed by James Morrison, Keane, Wretch32, Labyrinth, Ben Howard and then Example.

Example aka. Elliot John Gleave

By this time the light was starting to move round and down on the main stage and as it took on the warm evening glow for Noel the light was lovely.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

When the Stone Roses appeared, the sun had set and it was stage lights only. I finished the night with Ed  Sheeran who was really on form and probably produced one of the best set of photos of the weekend.

The Stone Roses

Sunday I kicked off with Olly Murs quickly followed by Beverly Knight, Wiley, Conor Maynard, Frank Turner and Madness before Sir Tom. Again the sun was in a nice place.

Sir Tom Jones

then Tinie

Tinie Tempah

The tightest photography pit I attended was without doubt Pixe Lott (who I thought was doing a bit of a Katy Perry impersonation with these sunglasses).

I would not be shooting The Killers, so my weekend ended with Snow Patrol…
